STAR-Power is Safiery's flagship digital switching controller — a 12V distribution panel controller with twelve outputs: six 30A channels (fixed on/off) for high-current loads, plus six 10A dimmable channels, rated to 100A continuous and up to 150A through the unit. Safiery's operating manual is explicit that STAR-Power — like the rest of the STAR range — is built for the main distribution panel in the rear of vehicles, motorhomes, vans and caravans, not the engine bay or the cabin: this is the controller for the build that needs one box doing real current, not just signal switching. Inside the STAR range, it's the high-current specialist. STAR-Light (12 x 10A channels, 40A total) is built for lighting circuits and RGBW colour control; STAR-Rover (4 x 15A channels, 40A total, IP65) is built for tight or harsh-condition mounting spots. STAR-Power is the only one of the three rated to 150A. It also has twelve manual backup buttons built into the controller face, direct-driving every output even if CAN, Bluetooth and WiFi all fail at once — STAR-Rover has no backup buttons at all. It's also positive-switching only on every channel (negatives go straight to ground or battery, not back through the controller), where STAR-Rover lets you configure each channel as positive or negative. Like every STAR controller, it runs CAN bus (NMEA 2000-compatible, integrates with Victron), Bluetooth Long Range — supporting up to 80 wireless switches on a single system — and Matter WiFi, all simultaneously, on open standards rather than a closed system like Redarc's R-Bus. Short-circuit protection is fuseless, opening the circuit in 80 microseconds.

Twelve switched outputs and a hundred amps through one anodised aluminium box, sitting on the same CAN network as your Victron Cerbo and speaking Matter - the open standard - rather than a bus one company owns.

STAR-Power is the high-current end of the STAR range. Six 30A channels handle the loads that actually pull something - winches, compressors, water heaters, light bars - and six 10A dimmable channels handle everything else. Safiery's manual is specific about where it belongs: the main distribution panel in the rear of a vehicle, motorhome, van or caravan. Not the engine bay, not the cabin.

It runs CAN (NMEA-style connectors, so a single cable reaches a Cerbo GX), Bluetooth Long Range and Matter over WiFi at the same time rather than as alternatives. There is no hub and no master in the network - switches talk directly to the controller they drive - and short-circuit protection is fuseless, opening the circuit in eighty millionths of a second.

STAR-Power speaks CAN on NMEA-style connectors, and NMEA is simply the marine dialect of CAN - so it sits on the same network your Victron Cerbo GX already lives on, over a single CAN-to-Cerbo RJ45 cable. Switch from your phone in its own digital switching app, from CarPlay on the dash, from an Alexa Show on the wall, or from Home Assistant if you run one. That reach is the point of Matter: it is the open standard smart devices agree on, so the controller is not tied to one company's app and one company's roadmap. It runs over WiFi alongside CAN and Bluetooth rather than instead of them, so nothing you already use stops working.

Eighty millionths of a second, and no fuse to carry

A short circuit is detected and opened in hardware in 80 microseconds - far faster than a fuse can part, and without the fuse. There is no drawer of spares to keep, nothing to identify by torchlight, and nothing to be out of when you need it. Protection resets rather than being replaced.

Questions

What is Matter, and why does it matter here?

Matter is the industry's open standard for smart devices - the shared language that lets equipment from different manufacturers work together without one company owning the protocol. STAR-Power carries it over WiFi, on top of CAN and Bluetooth rather than instead of them. The practical point is longevity: a closed proprietary bus is worth whatever its owner chooses to keep supporting, where an open standard on IPv6 endpoints is what a twenty-year service life is built on.

How does it connect to Victron?

Over CAN. NMEA is the marine dialect of CAN and both share one network, so a single CAN-to-Cerbo RJ45 cable puts STAR-Power on the same bus your Victron Cerbo GX already uses. NMEA-compliant multi-function displays can control the channels directly as well, and a Victron touch screen mirrors the controller's actual state however a channel was switched.

What happens if the wireless drops out?

You press a button. STAR-Power carries twelve manual backup buttons on its face, wired directly to the twelve outputs, and they keep working with CAN, Bluetooth and WiFi all down at once. Neither of the other two STAR controllers has them.

Where should it be mounted?

In the main distribution panel in the rear of the vehicle - not the engine bay and not the cabin. Safiery specifies under 2m from the ground so it can be reached and serviced without a ladder.

Can a channel switch the negative instead of the positive?

Not on STAR-Power - every channel switches positive, and the return negatives must go straight to ground or battery negative rather than back through the controller. STAR-Light and STAR-Rover can be configured either way if you need that.

What supply wire and fuse does it need?

16mm2 minimum on the supply, and a 150A maximum fuse. That fuse size is the supply protection - it is not the current the controller passes, which is 100A.

How many switches can I run?

Up to 80 wireless switches on a single system, and up to 6 switch buttons can control any one channel, configurable as modes, master or sub-master.

Is the wireless secure?

Once a switch is programmed, the controller accepts signals from that switch's unique Bluetooth UUID and filters everything else out. The UUID space is 2^128, so duplication is not a practical concern - this is not the garage-door-opener technology that made early caravan switching unreliable.
