  • Victron GX (Cerbo GX, Ekrano GX) — Bluetooth advertising, native Venus OS support. A GX without built-in Bluetooth needs a standard USB Bluetooth adapter.
  • GX Touch — Connected directly to your Cerbo GX. Local tank viewing without internet. Display sold separately.
  • NMEA 2000 chartplotter via GX — Your GX shares the tank reading over NMEA 2000. Requires a VE.Can to NMEA 2000 connection, GX NMEA2000-out enabled, and a chartplotter supporting the tank's fluid type and fluid-level data. No internet needed.
  • Marine MFD via interface kit — An alternative route using the STAR-Tank to MFD interface kit. A separate interface option, not the connection cable for the Cerbo GX route shown above.
  • STAR-Switch Custom — Logic blocks can act on tank level
  • Phones and tablets via VRM — Remote viewing through your Victron GX. Requires an internet-connected GX set up on VRM, and internet access on your phone or tablet.
  • Direct Bluetooth to phones or third-party displays — The sensor broadcasts to a Victron GX. Phone access is through VRM, rather than a direct Bluetooth connection to the sensor.

Three steps from tank to reading.

Mount the sensor, tune its radar return, then calibrate the tank on your GX.

  1. Mount it above the liquid

    On plastic or fibreglass, bond the base plate to the tank top and let it cure before fitting the sensor. Metal tanks need an opening and an SAE 5-bolt installation.

  2. Run the sensor’s startup routine

    Hold the button for about 10 seconds. The LED turns from red to green when the radar routine finishes. This tunes the sensor; tank calibration is a separate step.

  3. Set up the tank on your GX

    Enable the sensor in the GX Bluetooth sensors menu, then set the measuring range and tank calibration on site. Your GX uses the calibration to calculate percentage and litres.

Normal readings arrive every 60 seconds. Battery life varies with how full the tank usually is.

Measures the liquid surface from above, with no float or probe immersed in the water.

The published repeatability specification for the water sensor. Tank level and litres are calculated using your GX calibration.

Each tank needs one sensor and a compatible receiving system.

A compatible Victron GX

STAR-Tank support is built into Venus OS. Your GX receives the sensor’s readings over Bluetooth; a GX without built-in Bluetooth needs a supported USB Bluetooth adapter.

The display connection you want

GX Touch connects to a compatible Cerbo GX. Chartplotter viewing needs a compatible NMEA 2000 connection and fluid-level support. These local viewing options do not need internet.

Internet for remote phone viewing

To view through Victron VRM, connect your GX to the internet and set it up on VRM. Your phone also needs internet access.

Questions

Do I need to tell you my tank depth before I order?

No. The measuring range is set during setup once the sensor arrives. If you would like advice on a deep or unusual tank, we are happy to help.

Do I still need a GX Tank 140?

No. STAR-Tank sends readings directly to the GX over Bluetooth, so there is no tank-sender input to wire and no GX Tank 140 required.

Can I read it on my phone?

Yes, through Victron VRM when your GX is connected to the internet and set up on VRM. Your phone also needs internet access. The sensor does not connect directly to a phone over Bluetooth.

Do I need internet to see the tank level?

No. GX Touch or a compatible NMEA 2000 chartplotter can show the reading locally. Internet is needed for remote viewing through VRM.

What is the dead band?

The first 30mm below the sensor base cannot be measured. The tank wall counts toward that figure: on a 12mm fibreglass tank, the dead band ends about 18mm below the inside top.

Will it work on a metal tank?

Yes. Metal tanks need an opening and an SAE 5-bolt installation because radar cannot read through steel or aluminium. The warranty is 1 year for this installation, compared with 5 years excluding the battery on non-metallic tanks.
