ISUZU NPS Becomes a Power BEAST: 8kW Belt Generator + 3kW at 24/12V!

Isuzu NPS gets 8kW second alternator
Isuzu Independent Charging Circuits up to 8kW

Introduction: A New Benchmark in Mobile Power

The ISUZU NPS has long been the backbone of service fleets, remote operators, and off-road work trucks. From mine sites to construction zones, this rugged 4×4 platform has proven its reliability. But what if one of the toughest trucks in Australia could also become a mobile powerhouse, running hydraulic services, tools, and onboard electronics without a separate generator?

That’s exactly what Safiery has achieved with the launch of its 48V 8kW Belt Motor Generator, engineered specifically for heavy-duty service trucks like the ISUZU NPS. And it doesn’t stop there — the system  can also split this power with up to 3kW at 24V and/or 12V, powering everything from hydraulic pumps to work lights and communication gear.

With this breakthrough, the ISUZU NPS has earned a new title: the Power BEAST.

The Challenge: Powering Service Trucks Efficiently

Service trucks, particularly those equipped with hydraulic equipment, demand serious electrical power. Traditional setups often rely on:

  • Separate diesel gensets mounted on the truck, adding weight, noise, and fuel complexity.

  • PTO (Power Take-Off) systems connected to the driveline, which can be costly, maintenance-intensive, and difficult to retrofit.

  • Alternator upgrades, which are typically limited to 12V or 24V and struggle to provide stable high-power output for demanding loads.

For operators in industries like mining, construction, rail, and utilities, these solutions add cost, complexity, and downtime. What was missing was a clean, compact, and integrated way to generate high levels of DC power directly from the truck’s engine.

This is a SECOND “Alternator”

But it's not an old school alternator but the new high efficiency permanent magnet generator. It produces 8kW of power and at least 2kW at Idle.

It has an isolated ground (or negative) so it doesn't in ANY way connect to the trucks starter motor nor the trucks 24V system. It is totally isolated and independent.

It is totally isolated and independent power system.

Second Alternator in an ISUZU NPS 8kW Power

Safiery’s Solution: The 48V 8kW Belt Motor Generator

Enter Safiery’s 48V Belt Motor Generator — an alternator-class unit that redefines what’s possible for mobile service power.

  • 8kW continuous output at 48V, Split into 48V and either 24V or 12V

  • The split power can be up to 3kW at either 24V or 12V outputs

  • Designed for integration with hydraulic services, tools, lighting, and communications

  • Belt-driven from the engine, eliminating the need for separate PTOs or gensets

This isn’t just an alternator upgrade — it’s a complete rethink of how trucks can generate and distribute power. By tapping directly into the engine’s belt drive, Safiery has created a system that’s lighter, cleaner, and more reliable than conventional setups.

Why 48V? The Future of Mobile Power

The shift to 48V systems has been happening across industries, from automotive hybrids to marine applications. Here’s why it makes sense for service trucks:

  • Higher efficiency: 48V allows for lower current at the same power, reducing heat and cable thickness.

  • Better integration with lithium batteries: 48V packs charge faster, hold more energy, and deliver higher output for demanding tools.

  • Scalability: With 8kW at 48V, the ISUZU NPS can now power everything from welding gear to hydraulic pumps.

By pairing 48V with 24V and 12V outputs, Safiery ensures total system compatibility. Operators can run their existing 12V accessories while preparing for a future that’s increasingly 48V-centric.

This is 85% Efficient when Hot. A traditional Alternator is only 50% when hot.

Real-World Application: Hydraulic Service Trucks

One of the first deployments of the 48V Belt Motor Generator is on ISUZU NPS service trucks that run hydraulic equipment. Traditionally, these trucks carry bulky gensets to power hydraulic pumps. With Safiery’s system:

  • The 8kW 48V output drives hydraulic systems directly.

  • The 3kW 24V/12V outputs handle lights, radios, diagnostics, and auxiliary tools.

  • The truck remains lighter, quieter, and more efficient without an extra genset.

This results in lower fuel consumption, less maintenance, and more payload capacity — critical factors in industries where every kilogram and every minute counts.

Benefits Over Traditional Systems

1. No More Gensets

Operators can finally retire their noisy, heavy, and maintenance-hungry diesel gensets. The belt generator provides all the power they need whenever the truck is running.

2. Compact and Lightweight

By integrating into the existing engine system, the Safiery generator eliminates bulky add-ons. This means more space for tools, equipment, or payload.

3. Multi-Voltage Flexibility

Whether it’s a 48V lithium pack, a 24V compressor, or a 12V lighting rig, the system powers it all.

4. Lower Total Cost of Ownership

Fewer moving parts, no separate fuel system, and less downtime mean real savings over the life of the vehicle.

5. Australian Toughness

Designed and tested in Australia, the system is built for heat, dust, and rugged work environments.

Adding Solid State Lithium Batteries

The batteries are the centre of the energy universe and have to be “managed” CAN BMS that broadcasts the maximum charge and discharge rate:

  • The 8kW 48V output synchronises directly with the battery BMS command for absolute safety and compliance.

  • The 3kW 12V outputs Operate from this battery bank directly and there is NO NEED for an additional 12V battery.

This results in an electrical system that is simpler with a single managed battery system all visible on the Victron One Touch Display.

ISUZU NPS: The Perfect Match

The ISUZU NPS is already known as a go-anywhere, do-anything service truck. With 4×4 capability, robust chassis, and strong payload ratings, it’s the platform of choice for countless operators.

By pairing it with Safiery’s 48V Belt Motor Generator, the NPS gains a new dimension:

  • A mobile energy hub that supports hydraulics, tools, and electronics.

  • The ability to operate as a field service station without additional equipment.

  • An edge over competitors, especially for operators bidding on jobs requiring flexible, efficient power solutions.

Industry Impact: A Game-Changer for Fleets

The implications extend well beyond individual trucks. For fleet managers:

  • Simplified maintenance – fewer systems to service.

  • Standardized power – all trucks can deliver consistent output across 48V, 24V, and 12V.

  • Improved uptime – reduced failures from separate gensets or PTO systems.

  • Better sustainability – lower emissions and reduced fuel burn.

In industries under pressure to cut costs and emissions, this technology provides a clear path forward.

Safiery: Innovation at the Core

Safiery has built its reputation on pushing boundaries in lithium batteries, digital switching, and energy management for RVs, marine, and industrial markets. The 48V Belt Motor Generator is another step in that journey — combining deep engineering expertise with real-world operator needs.

This product isn’t just an alternator. It’s a carefully engineered system that integrates with Safiery’s wider ecosystem:

  • Solid-state lithium batteries for storage.

  • Digital switching controllers for load management.

  • AI-driven forecasting tools for energy planning.

Together, these systems enable operators to move beyond piecemeal solutions toward a unified, intelligent power platform.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Mobile Energy

As industries transition toward electrification, the demand for onboard DC power will only increase. Safiery’s 48V Belt Motor Generator positions the ISUZU NPS at the forefront of this shift.

In the near future, expect to see:

  • Integration with renewable sources, such as solar charging.

  • Advanced energy forecasting, helping operators plan jobs based on available power.

  • Expansion into other truck platforms, from light commercial vehicles to heavy rigs.

  • Wider adoption in defense, emergency services, and remote field operations.

Victron One Touch Display is the Perfect Match

The NEW Victron One Touch Display gives ISUZU NPS owners every aspect of house control systems in a single one touch display.

  • BMG Power Generation appears on the Victron Display as “alternator” charging.

  • Digital Switching of the Safiery STAR Controllers can be done with physical switches AND the Victron One Touch Display. Available soon in 24V as well as 12V, they switch up to 1200W continuous combined loads. There is no limit to the number in the truck.

  • Tank monitoring can be done with STAR-Tank Radar above tank battery powered wireless sensor which communicated directly to Victron’s Cerbo.

Digital Switching that is stand alone or connects to Victron Cerbo

Conclusion: A Power BEAST Unleashed

The ISUZU NPS is already one of Australia’s most trusted workhorses. With Safiery’s 48V 8kW Belt Motor Generator, it evolves into something even more formidable: a Power BEAST capable of running hydraulics, tools, and auxiliary systems without compromise.

For operators, it means fewer headaches, lower costs, and a truck that does more with less. For the industry, it signals the start of a new era — one where mobile service power is smarter, cleaner, and built into the vehicle itself.

Repowering Sailing Boats with No Genset – No Problem!

No Genset is no Problem with Safiery on Saling Boat

Do you have LPG only and 12V Battery?

You are enjoying silence on the ocean and in the bay at night…

But would you like:

  • Hot Showers at any time?
  • Induction cooking that is so fast and efficient?
  • An Airfryer that cooks fast and efficient?
  • Espresso Coffe at breakfast?
  • Simple crispy toast?

This can all be done very easily on even the smallest engine from 30hp up?

But you DON’t want to add very much weight!

No Genset is no Problem with Safiery on Saling Boat

The Secret to lowest weight and highest available energy is to have high replenishment rate.

Replenishment Energy
Comparison of Efficiency Alternator vs BMG
BMG give more power that 6 honda gensets

Here is how its done to produce from 6kW to 10kW of Power from a Belt Motor Generator

BMG Charging with Scotty AI on Sailing Boat

The BMG is high efficiency permanent magnet generator that charges at 48V up to 10kW but generally runs at 7-8kW because of heat limits on the rear inverter.

It charges a 48V Lithium Battery Bank conrolled by Scotty AI. Scotty Ai will chare ANY lithium battery bank but also reads CAN enabled BMS if it is Victron Compliant.

Victron’s own batteries are not open CAN compliant but Scotty charges using bulk and float voltage control and has a STOP CHARGE input from the Victron BMS.

The Scotty Ai App lets the user set the RPM range from a low to a high and a matching power range that syncs with the RPM range. This is exceptionally important as small engines must not be overloaded at low RPM.

The Scotty AI App shows the user the power, the temperature and an alerts from the BMG. It is slick!

Scotty Ai does 2 independent functions as a DC DC:

Firstly it charges the starter battery with user defined settings as there is no 12v alternator present.

Secondly, once charged, it also charges the house battery and then sets it to float voltage as a “camping Set Point” typically 12.6 or 12.8V.

It will go back to bulk charge again after a user set time to keep the starter battery and house battery in great shape.

48V vs 12V Cost, efficiency and weight

48V is the best choice for inverter power because:

  • Lowest Equipment Cost
  • Lightest weight cabling
  • Highest discharge rate in Power from good Lithium Batteries
  • Highest charge rate in Power to good Lithium Batteries
  • DC DC is high efficiency and power in 48V to 12V
Scotty Ai and BMG now appear as an alternator on Victron GUI

For Victron Users:

  • BMG appears as “Alternator” on Victron Display Venus OS 3.63 and higher
  • DC DC operation appears as DC Loads

Solving the Power Problem with Catamarans – No Genset

Catamaran at night no genset
Catamaran with 3kW solar replenishing lithium batteries

Frugal, Moderate or Bold Energy User?

A 50-55ft Catamaran with 2 people will use 10-20kWh of energy per day. This may be a combination of gas and electric. If it’s all electric as the trend is with induction cooktops and combination air fryer/ oven, then it may be closer to 20kWh of electrical energy per day.

3kW of solar in the aft region of the boat free from general sailing shadows will yield 15 -18kWh in good weather in summer.

The challenge is the 20% of the time when solar yield is poor. Fortunately when the yield is poor, the skipper may be relocating with the engines running. It’s during this time, there is opportunity to capture a ton of replenishment power.

The Secret is Rate of Replenishment Power

Charging at 10kW from the engine gives 5kWh every half hour. Running from two engines gives double that. That means in one hour engine time, on both engines you have recovered 18-20kWh. Thats the same as you would get from solar in perfect weather all day! So run the water maker, spa heater, all electric cooking and electric pizza oven. We have you covered.

Bidirectional Motor Generator

This is no ordinary alternator. If you are familiar with EV’s, their motors are synchronous with AC to DC inverter drives and run in regen mode.

This hybrid unit is based on a permanent magnet generator. However for precise control over a wide range of speeds, some field excitation is introduced.

In a brushed 48V alternator,  a direct current (DC) flows through field windings on the rotor, creating the necessary magnetic field.

In this unit, permanent magnets and electromagnetic field windings are combined to generate the magnetic field. The permanent magnets provide a constant baseline magnetic flux, while the field windings, located on the stator (and NOT the rotor), allow for dynamic adjustment of the magnetic field. This design often eliminates the need for brushes and the digital inverter control changes the excitation and power output very precisely.
